Strengthening North Carolina with Sustainable Economic Empowerment Programming

The mission of the North Carolina Financial Educators Council℠ is to build sustainable, scalable economic empowerment programs that have a real impact on people’s lives at the community level. To accomplishing this mission, we focus on these 3 Pillars:

Pillar 1: Increase Access & Develop Sustainable Financial Education Programming.

Organizations – We provide resources, training, personnel, and support to build scalable financial wellness programming.

Individuals & Families – Resources and courses are provided for those seeking to improve their own finances and/or teach their kids about money.

Pillar 2: Raise Awareness for Economic Empowerment through Financial Education.

Advocacy Promotion Campaigns – We promote the adoption of financial literacy into schools, getting families involved in teaching kids about money, and encouraging individuals to improve their knowledge.

Local Financial Education Data – Conducting and curating North Carolina-specific personal finance research to share with stakeholders across the education and media sectors.

Pillar 3: Develop Relationships to Deploy and Sustain Community Financial Wellness.

North Carolina Financial Literacy

Curious about North Carolina financial literacy rates? Given a recent campaign led by the North Carolina Financial Educators Council℠ it appears that, in North Carolina, financial literacy represents a high priority. Through this program the Tar Heel State is providing individuals and community groups with access to financial education-related informational resources. Part of a growing nationwide effort, the North Carolina financial literacy drive is working toward increasing financial capabilities among state residents and their communities.

North Carolina Financial Literacy Legislation & Educational Stats

How does North Carolina compare to the rest of the nation in terms of total number of schools, students and teachers? Data for 2023 compiled by a program of the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (The Common Core of Data, or CCD) indicated that North Carolina had 2,614 schools, 1,548,895 students, and 99,320 teachers in total (national averages: 1,972; 986,521; and 61,418, respectively).

In April 2015, North Carolina established a pilot program on teaching financial literacy in the state’s public schools, designated House Bill 775. Another piece of legislation introduced in 2015 would establish a program of financial literacy and life skills instruction to be offered by North Carolina community colleges, reports the National Conference of State Legislatures.

About the North Carolina Financial Educators Council℠

The North Carolina Financial Educators Council℠ came into being in 2017. This financial education push represents one segment of a wider campaign spearheaded by the National Financial Educators Council® (NFEC®). In partnership, these two groups conduct community campaigns with shared goals for financial literacy outcomes.
